I think for most of us the issue is having our vehicle in compliance with safety standards, not any likely consequences from the seat anchoring. In terms of actual danger, the Mercedes airbags under recall are probabably more likely to get someone hurt. I plan to get those fixed, but I am going to continue using my RV in the meantime. Same with the 2nd row seats.

Is there anyone who has had the recalled seats in their roadtrek fixed yet? If so where did you have it done (I am in Seattle )? How much did it cost and how complicated is it to do? Could one do it themselves if they had the parts?

It depends on what you are fixing- could you be more specific?

Regarding your other question about seat belts, what seat/bed arrangement do you have in the back? Do you have the optional forward-facing, folding sofa or the fixed benches along each side?

the "Chevy Van" part can be serviced by any shop, anywhere. The only restrictions would be that they have a lift with the overhead clearance and the weight capacity for your motorhome.
( motor, transmission, steering, suspension, brakes etc.)


It is very likely that your 2002 Roadtrek is on a 2001 Chevrolet Express 2500 Chassis.
Any auto shop doing repairs should ascertain by using the Chevy VIN number/ tag under the hood.
Make sure you mention this






the "Roadtrek" part should be serviced by an RV specialist who will likely have experience with each of the components in your van ( furnace, water heater, generator etc.) and also a knowledge of how roadtrek generally lays out the plumbing and electrical systems



as for "adding" seat belts- for real safety this requires using factory mounting points- and a seat which is designed or engineered, rather than a sofa or bed built up from wood inside the van



many motorhomes do not have "safe" seating in the rear


adding seatbelts to a weak structure may give a false sense of security



I'd suggest asking the RV specialist about this

It was in response to a thread about recalls on ROADTREK 190 2002.
Wondering if I must use a dealership or ?? To have the recall checked out.
I also want to install seatbelts in the sofa sleeping back area, safely, so more than three can travel safely belted in. Thanks

Isn't there seat belts under the rear seat in the storage area? On my 210 they are located there.

No seat belts are there. Believe me, we wanted them to be.

You can buy universal aftermarket seat belts and install them yourself of have a body shop install them. https://www.seatbeltsplus.com/universal-seat-belts.html

Regarding the older recalls... Since the old Roadtrek that built your unit is now out of business, you're on your own. Most appear related to the camper conversion, so an RV shop would be the best bet. Is there a particular post that caught your attention?

Yes, you can buy aftermarket seat belts, but as already said, if the seat itself and/or seat belt attachment points are not crash-designed and tested, they may not be effective, and it’s possible they could do harm. A reputable body shop could certainly give sound advice.

Our 2014 has two 3-point belts on the rear sofa, which is a metal framed affair designed for passengers. The belts were attached by Roadtrek to the rear corner pillars and the center of the floor behind the seats. I could take some photos if it would help.
