Default Huntington, IN Campgrounds

Planning a brief trip to Sportsmobile in Huntington, IN for two nights and plan on staying at either: Kil-So-Quah State Recreation Area, within a couple of miles from town or somewhere on Salamonie Lake (Lost Bridge Rec Area, Mt Hope Rec Area, or Doranew Holand) a bit farther away. Since we are camping out of our van and have no facilities (yet), we'd like to find a campground with electric and showers/flushers (no pit/vault). Starting to search the net, but info on these places is hard to get. So I thought I'd come to the experts!!!
Any thoughts, opinions or what ever. Also need a good restaurant in town for lunch.

Thanks

We camped at Salamonie Lake Rec Area in early May 2009. After looking around we thought it was the best and most convenient. It has electric sites and flush/water bathrooms. I honestly can't recall what the shower situation was. Here is a photo of us at the end of a peninsula where we had most of it to ourselves. If you go, treat yourself to a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and a Hoosier Cream Pie at Nick's Kitchen in downtown Huntington on Jefferson Street. It is a 104 year old continuously operated cafe open for breakfast and lunch.

Second on Nicks for the breaded pork tenderloin..... Another good spot is the train depot (not sure of the name) but its right across from Sportsmobile. Will check with husband tomorrow and post which campground we stayed at.

Davy, do you recall if it was Lost Bridge Rec Area, Mt Hope Rec Area, or Doranew Holland area? And thanks for the eatery tips.
And Ennajean, the Train depot sounds good, we found the Rusty Dog on line with good reviews, but not sure if it's just employees with a computer wanting to keep their job or not. We got a month.

thanks all

We stayed at Kil-So-Quah...nice park but I do recall where pit type toilets.....very clean and not the typical kind. Some sites did have elec. We also stayed one at Camp Timber Lake....a private campground...alot of seasonal sites but was very good for a night or two. Decent clean restrooms.

What are you all having done at SMB? Nice group of people to work with there. Nancy who works in the office is a big help with any questions you might have.

Want to talk to them in person and get some ideas of what we want and what we can afford. We like to see and touch our options, rather than a lo-res pic on the internet. Besides I just retired and now have the time and as they say, "Ain't never been to Huntington 'fore."

thanks all
