Default Is anyone is Oshkosh for EAA?

We took a drive through the EAA campgrounds yesterday. I was amazed to see how many B's are out there! Are any forum members in town?

I have a friend who started building his own BD-5 from a kit while living in a high-rise studio apartment. Yes, in the apartment. He moved into a house before finishing.

Lots and lots to see and do at Airventure! The night time air shows were especially cool. I grew up with my Dad building airplanes in our garage, so it was fun for me to see all the home builts. Things have changed since the last time I visited Airventure back in the 60's (?)

Best time ever. Been many times when I was younger. Flew in two times camped under the old 1957 cessna straight tail.
Once on departure we were 2nd behind a B-17. We were in the air right behind him off to his right side. What a sight to see. Still sends chills down my spine.
I was always gona take my 1947 Beechcraft Bonanza there but never did. I did go to alot of other flyins with it tho. Loved that plane.
Keep lookin for the "B's" They're out there. Lol

Yep, the indestructible Flying Fortress. Well, not totally indestructible. My brother flew 26 missions in a B-17 over Germany in WWII until they got shot down by flak over Leipzig. He had nothing but good things to say about that plane.

"Thinking of going in 2017. Any reports will be appreciated!"

Bring lots of money. Make sure your A/C and battery charging circuitry is up to snuff. It can be 100F during the day with no place to hide but cools at night. For those with generators a Genturi (roof exhaust) would be nice.

A Renetto chair with shade and shoulder straps would be nice tho big to carry in a B.

You have to pay till the end of the show. They give a refund if you leave early. EAA membership is demanded when you check in, if you don't have it, it is part of your camping fee. Ask if you need to be in the generator area to run your engine generator (I would think so). They have honor pay (reasonable) dump stations as you exit.

BD-5 "Goes like a bullet and lasts about as long!"
Davydd, I hope your friend survived his BD-5.
The jets were successful, the recips, not so much.
A few flew with Honda Civic engines.
None flying today that I know of.

B's are perfect if your A/C and awning are working. Don't know what the availability for shore power is. I dry camp in the generator lot when I go. It was great to have a refuge from the heat and mid day sun. The earlier you go the closer in and less walking you have to do. Generators can run 24/7 so you have to live with that if you choose that lot.

Dry camp may be a misnomer as it can turn into a sea of mud. Last time I was there they had a fleet of tow trucks pulling out Diesel Pushers.
