Default One of our best trips yet

We have just returned from a fabulous trip in our Roadtrek, we started at Assateague State Park, and had a great time with all the wild ponies, they just wonder down the beach, or into your campsite, it was a lot of fun just riding our bikes around the island, we worked our way slowly down to Virginia beach, and Myrtle beach, but the real highlight was staying out on the Outerbanks, we stayed at the state park which was very clean, quiet, hot showers, and close to everything, very nice people running it also. We did go to Kittyhawk, which we both found to be very interesting, took the guided tour and actually learned a lot of new information about the Wright brothers, very well worth the visit. We then worked slowly down to Charlesto,S.C,great RV Parking in the center of town, $16 for 24 hours can’t be beat,, a very beautiful city with lots of history, and lots of great antiques and shops, and restaurants, the food was a highlight for me,,,lots to choose from,, then our last stop was Savannah’s Georgia,,,boy it got hot and humid there, but still had a wonderful tour, and spent a lot of time just walking the streets,, Forest Gump was filmed in certain spots there, I didn’t know that,,,,anyways, had a great time, the Rv worked perfectly even in the heat , met some of the nicest people, if you ever get a chance, I highly recommend these stops if your in the area,,,you will be glad you did,,,take care,,,,,

Ijust wanted to add that we stayed at a lot of the State parks on this trip, and we really enjoyed them, great locations, nice and private camp spots, very clean , and the average price was$28-$35 a night, it was always quiet and had a great nights rest, meet some wonderful Rv folks everywhere we went,,I love listening to other people’s travels, and places they would recommend,,,,take care

Did the state parks allow dogs? I'm finding that to be an issue with many state parks in the Northeast. We wanted to check out Hither Hills State Park out east on Long Island, but no dogs allowed.

Im pretty sure there were dogs in all the state parks we visited ,we don't travel with our pets, but there were some signs asking not to take dogs on the beach, but that is the only restriction we saw, we actually commented on how many people travel with their pets, everyone walked and cared for their dogs, and cleaned up after them, we saw some couples travelling with their cats,,, its nice to see,

Most state parks require you to have dogs on a leash outdoors at all times, not allowed in bathrooms and usually not allowed on hiking trails.

To clarify, Hither Hills State Park on east end of Long Island allows leashed dogs in the state park but dogs are not permitted in the camping areas of the state park. So you can't camp there with your family pet, which is a problem for us.

That's probably a policy stemming from campground abusers with their pets. EVERYONE says they pick up after their dogs but there are quite a few that don't.

Many Pennsylvania state parks have designated campground loops where pets are permitted. They cost more.

The Mid-Atlantic has much to offer. Thanks for the story and pictures. Savannah is one of my favorite places to visit.

Have done a similar trip many times. I love Assateague Island National Seashore. It is dry camping only . Never stayed in the Maryland side state park. Pets are permitted in the National Park side. Hope you had time to try some of the local restaurants as you traveled the Eastern shore
