Default Crab cakes and oven fries

These ready-made crab cakes and oven fries are one of my favorite quick meals.

I get both of them at Costco.

I cook them in the propane oven in my RV. I bet they'd cook nicely on a BBQ - maybe wrap them up in foil.

WOW ! Marko, they sound delicious. I checked the sites and boy, those crab cakes sure look delicious! Have to get them and since Harold does the cooking, I can sit back and enjoy them Easy and quick, is the best way to cook in our Pleasure-Way.

Yes Marko!! Those crab cakes are excellent. Have had them several times at home and will have to try to remember to pick some up to take along in camping season. Costco has some great foods, but you have to watch for what they have in stock at different times.

They are really easy to make from scratch. Just open a can of crab meat and drain it, add about 1/3 cup of mayo, 2 cups bread cubes (I used unseasoned stuffing) , 1 egg, some chopped green onion and a tablespoon or more of ground horseradish. Mix it up, let it sit about 30 minutes then form into patties and fry in olive oil.

Be sure to let it sit a while before you try to form them, the bread needs to soak up the juicy stuff to get soft enought to form. You may need to add a bit more mayo.

I don't have a Costco close by but I do shop at Sam's Club - they too have very good Crab Cakes (tho I'm not sure I'd take them on a trip in the Van).....bill

Ahhh, no. But I can bring the stuff and make them at the Class B event in Utah.... they are easy enough to make in the RV.

I was grocery shopping on Friday and bought the stuf to make them. They're on the menu some day this week - Come on over!

I've done both - homemade & store-bought.

What I've found is that, unless you want to buy a "tub" of lump crab from a speciality store (read "expensive"), the canned stuff will have the consistency somewhat like wet shredded wheat - while the "pre-made" Crab Cakes (that I've had) use an honest "lump Crab".

Also, unless an RV'r is a full timer or a "camper" and needs to take up time in their unit, the pre-made ones are non-time-intensive.

The quality of the store-bought ones are every bit as good as homemade - to each their own.....bill

Just for info:

Just got back from Sam's club - they've got 1 lb tubs of Lump Crap for about $24 (yikes). I did get a package of the pre-made Crab Cakes (got hungry for 'em after writing about 'em) - 6 of them in the pac and the price was about $15/$16 (will cook-up a couple of 'em as appetizers for our Ravioli dinner tonight).....bill
