Default 1997 Pleasure Way : Need Generator Help

It almost starts, but can't stay running.

I was thinking I would service it myself.

But I don't have the manual.

Does anyone have a manual or a link to a video on how to do a service for the generator on this 1997 Pleasure Way ?

I'm pretty good at DIY but if you think it's too hard too I would value hearing that.

Thanks

I will be tackling a similar project on an Onan 2800 from my newly purchased 96 Pleasure Way. I found some good You Tube videos on the subject--even found out that with less than a 1/4 tank of gas, the generator will not draw fuel.
I do have the original owners manual for the Onan, I can scan it and send or post--if that helps.

.

Onan has a step-by-step troubleshooting guide.

Google should get you there.

The first thing to check on older Onans is the little rubber vent tube that hangs down. Insects crawl up and build nests. The unit won't run if the tube is blocked. Happened to me twice. You clear it with a piece of wire. Newer units have foam screens to prevent this.

.

It's a breather tube for the crankcase.

The tube I was referring to is actually the vent on a propane regulator built into the genset. It must be vented to atmosphere or the engine will not run. Here is one description of the system:

Cleaning out the regulator vent hose on your RV's Onan MicroQuiet 3600LP generator may solve staring problems

1997 Pleasure Way ?

I would think that's a gas Onan.

Dunno. If so, my advice does not apply.

I downloaded both the Owners Manual and the Service Manual from the Onan site. They were free.

While your at it, why not throw in a couple cans of Seafoam...you said it would not stay running - this might get you cleaned out. If you have a quarter tank, those two cans will be great towards freeing up any junk in the carb. Glad you found the Manuals. Ron

Thanks everyone for your inputs. Here are some pics. I'm still trying to figure out how to get started. I got some ramps so I can get another the back of my RV now. It looks pretty hard to get that generator out of there but I'll go for it if it makes sense. Does anyone have a video on how to do that ? I was thinking then I could give it a once over with oil change, spark plugs, fuel filter, etc since I don't really know the status - this RV sat for about 4 years. Then again if the Sea Foam gets it fired up maybe I shouldn't even bother. I almost hate to admit it but from the Model No: 4KYFA26100K I still can't figure out what model I have - I'm guessing its the RV QG 4000 ? Sorry about being a newbie but I will learn fast. Thanks again any and all for guidance / suggestions.

If he has a 4.0 Onan, it is going to be substantially heavier than the 115# range that the 2.8 is. I wouldn't even consider trying to remove it by hand, even on piled blocks, unless you had two quite burly guys doing it. Using a jack makes it cake.

Call the Cummins Customer Response Center at 1-800-888-6626 with the serial number. Press "3" when prompted by the recording. They'll help you identify the model and spec letter you need to order parts and manuals.
