Default Magnum ME-SBC

Installation of the Magnum ME-SBC in progress, parts are in. I will be installing it on the back side of the drive seat pedestal with added additional protection. The little Blue-Sea +/-100A amp meter is a jewel. It can be installed in positive or negative wiring, comes with 100A/50mV shunt, and it has high contrast OLED display visible in full daylight. Great joy for $57 on Amazon. I still need to use a twisted wire pair.

For folks using rivnuts Amazon is selling SS in most thread sizes.

Will continue.

I finished the installation of the Magnum Smart Battery Combiner which will limit max current to 25/30A for charging my house batteries. I wired it in series with the factory relay so it is primarily on with engine running. I can also use combiner’s reverse capability and charge for chassis battery with solar or shore. I have Blue Sea ammeter active during charging only, (-) for house > chassis, and (+) for alternator > house.

The Blue Sea temperature meter for ambient temperature, visible and 10mA draw.

While seat being removed, I installed the folding parking brake lever for swivel seat.

George,

How does the battery combine limit the charge current to 25-30 amps?

I read the manual and talk to folks at Magnum about 2 years ago and this what I remember. The unit allows charge in both direction and it throttles voltage to limit maximum current flow to 25/30A. There is overcurrent protection which would trigger at reduced current rate at 30A. Current can be increased by adding a relay at the desired ampacity. Since installation I only checked charging from house to chassis (switched MB relay coil to house battery) but less than 25A was required. Going for a trip soon so I will check if I missed something.

I was considering Kisae 30A or 50A B>B charge controller but they were too big for my chosen space. I could use more than 25-30A, well not all decisions are perfect.
