Default Second battery switch

My Chevy G30 has 2 batteries, one in the engine bay and the second one approx under the driver seat.
I just bought a battery isolator switch and I want to separate the two batteries when the engine is off or when camping. The second battery -disconnected from the first one- will provide me the electricity to the 12v sockets and to an inverter, without dropping the first battery. The second step will be to add a solar panel that gives power to this batter, for the long stops or holidays.

My question is, are there any "don't do this way" recommendations?
I know I can't drop all the power from the battery, so I have a volt indicator connected

There's so many ways to do stuff.

I'd recommend focusing on the basics like making sure you have really good low resistance connection points. That means no corrosion / oxidation, good crimps. Also, use adequate or even better than adequate wire gauge to minimize voltage drop and maximize current carrying ability.

A bi-directional automatic relay might be had for the same or lower cost than a typical isolator. Isolators typically cause some voltage drop which makes it more challenging to get the house battery fully charged. I'm pleased with the low cost relay I posted about here: http://www.classbforum.com/forums/f8...lled-3409.html
