Default 1999 Roadtrek 200 mileage

Hello, all! We are looking at purchasing a 1999 Roadtrek 200 with a 454 Chev engine. The unit has 85k miles on it.
I have been scouring the web trying to find out if it requires premium fuel. I am also wondering if it gets much worse fuel economy than a 350 CID would get. Would appreciate any input. Thanks!

Default 454 is nearly 30 percent larger in displacement

YES..at 29 percent larger displacement and a big block V8.....I would expect it to use more fuel.... Can't imagine WHY you would need premium fuel???

It's all about condition at this point..I wouldn't get all wrapped up by the "low mileage" aspect.....ask for service records...and find out who owned it and for how long......

Fuel economy will be around 15 or so, maybe a few miles less.... depending on where and how you use it...

Default '2012 Airstream Avenue Suite (6.0L Chevy)

First long trip in our '2012 Airstream Avenue Suite (6.0L Chevy). Think Roadtrek 190 and you'll have a pretty good idea of the engine/chassis/size.

On our trip this past May from Texas Coast to Yellowstone and back we averaged 15.6 mpg up and 14.7 mpg on the way back. Half of the trip out was mountains, sightseeing, and twisty roads. Most of the way back was comparatively lower and basically level freeways at 70 mph but some headwind. Amazed that the mileage going out was so good considering the grades we pulled at elevations up to 9000 ft.

The Chevy 6.0L engine is a beast.

I have a 2017 PW Ascent (on a 2016 chassis) 2.1 4-cyl, 7-speed auto trans with only 2000 miles. Averaging 22-24 mpg....Good luck....RalphAscent

Keep in mind they are probably using Imperial Gallons, not US gallons. So factor in about 1.2 US gallons for 1 Imperial gallon.

And they may be equipped with teeny 1.3 liter turbo diesel engines.

Again. my 2017 PW Ascent (2016 MB 2500 chassis) has a 2.1L 4-cyl MB diesel with a 7-speed transmission. It average 22+ MPG (US gallons)....Not sure what the additional question was-----good luck....Ralph Ascent

On my last 5,000+ mile trip from the Texas Coast to Maine and back, the readout in my Chevy Express 3500-based Airstream Avenue read 15.8. I have determined it is about 3-4% optimistic over real world mpg, but still, I'm very pleased with 15+ mpg. Especially since I mostly drive the speed limit and don't baby it. Love the power from the 6.0L v-8 engine.

New Coachmen CrossFit, Ford Transit 350XL HD dually, 3.7l V6. Close to 9000lbs loaded.

Just finished a 2500 mile trip. Averaged a bit over 15mpg trip total. Stayed under 65mph on highways.

How’s this for good MPG’s…? Low fuel light just came on as I pulled into the gas station. 430 miles on a tank of 90% highway/10% city & idling. That means I still had approximately 3 gallons left in the gas tank. Drumroll please… 21.4 MPG’s. The computer was exactly 1 mile per gallon off, saying 22.1. But still, not too shabby. I almost beat my best – 21.5 MPG’s.
My neighbor has a 2014 Sprinter based Sportsmobile (which as you may know I so lovingly call them “Sh*tmobiles“, lol), with the 2.1 L 4 cylinder turbo diesel & 7 speed automatic. He says on flat ground with no wind, and driving at 55 MPH, gets 24-25 MPG. I know it’s not exactly apples to apples, but it’s fair to say given the large power difference between the engines, the large displacement difference, the differences between diesel efficiency and gas efficiency, and the fact that I was driving a little bit faster (55-65 MPH)… The 3.6 L gas engine in my ProMaster is the winner, even though it’s just a few miles per gallon behind the much smaller turbocharged diesel.

What year? What engine? And what is that miles per gallon number… as it is impossible to read when I zoom in. And is that your instant miles per gallon, or your average for that tank?

Our recent trip Portland OR to Key West and back, Sprinter 2013, 144”, 2500, V6, 8600 miles, average 20.2 mpg, best tank 22.0 mpg, worse 19.5 mpg.

Suddenly last year, after almost two years of 15+ mpg (see above) I lost almost a full mpg. The only change being a switch from Firestone Transforce tires to Michelin Defender tires. There could always be something else coincidentally going on, but I can't come up with a single thing. I know some tires have different rolling resistance, but never figured tires alone would account for a full mpg less.

Amazing, they have certainly come a long way. I had a 2010 sprinter diesel and it averaged 14 mpg.
