Default Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi network

Has anyone used the Alfa AWUS036H 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi network Adapter with 5dBi Antenna and Suction cup Window Mount dock for Wardriving & Range Extension for their laptop?

It is my understanding that the 4-inch 5 DdBi Screw-On Swivel Rubber Antenna that is supplied can be removed and upgraded up to a 9dBi antenna, even a 12dBi antenna.

Where can a 9dBi or 12 dBi antenna be purchased as I am unable to find any info.

Ron

I haven't tried it.

Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... s=AWUS036H looks like a good place to get it with multiple antennas. Some of the packages have both 5dBi and 9dBi antennas.

This site has it also http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet/-s ... USB/Detail

I don't know where you can get one in a store.

Checking it out on Amazon, there are so many, wonder which one would be the best to purchase.

Might be better to try the AWUS036NHR - apparently it is the successor to the AWUS036H. It adds 802.11n in addition to b & g.

This one is fulfilled by Amazon. Free shipping & fulfilled by Amazon are two of my preferences.

Let us how well it works after you get it and have a chance to use it. It could be a good option for anyone who doesn't want to mount an external antenna.

Mark, all,

Letting you know that I purchased the Alfa AWUS036, works wonders, connected it to my LapTop at home, picked wireless network connections from 7 sources (neighbors), there were 2 sources that I was able to connect on line.

The homes in my area are single dwellings.

Without the unit I only pick-up 1 wireless network connection, next door neighbor.
