Default American Flag Etiquette

American Flag Etiquette

The funny thing in searching US Flag Etiquette in the forum search, I found no prior post on just DISPLAYING or how to display the USA Flag. In the Young Marines, I was the keeper of the colors and performed in many Honor Guard and City parades. Over my lifetime. I will often found the US Flag displayed improperly on the wrong side of the other State Flags, platforms, stages, placement of the US Flag Poles. The thing to remember the US Flag goes on its own RIGHT or another way to think about the Speakers RIGHT as this is known as the place of high honor and respect.

What do you think when you see the American Flag Flying incorrectly?

What do you know about the American Flag others may not remember?

What do you know about the meaning of the Flags Stars, Stripes, Red, White, and Blue Colors?

Do you fly your own American Flag, on your own RV?

Just thought some of you would like to reflect on your Military time in service to your country and what your country and US Flag mean to you and your family.

Pictures, Videos of your Home Flag Welcomed.

(Please with respect and honor only) Thank You, Veterans, for your Military Service.

I served, and continue my public service in the form of law enforcement for the last 30 plus years. Believe me, flag etiquette is part of my DNA. There's little things that used to bother me... Flying a flag overnight with out proper illumination; flying worn/tattered flags; not recognizing presidential proclamations for half staff (I don't care who is in office); displaying other flags above the us flag; etc..

I've grown over the years to live and let live. I will fight to the death to protect everyone's bill of rights/constitutional rights. I'm old now. I recognize the importance of free speech. I figure that most people displaying the flag probably mean well. My two cents

The "flag' s right" seems ambiguous to me. Depending from which side you are looking, the 'right' side could be either. So this only makes sense when there is an obvious forward direction defined by external factors, such as hanging on a wall, or associated with a speaker/podium. I don't know how often this is relevant at a camping spot.

Yes we fly the flag while camping. We either have our state flag or a car club flag flying below it and smaller.

There is flag etiquette laws and recommendations and there is the first amendment. I believe the Supreme Court has ruled the first amendment takes precedent. So what you do with a flag is how you view it and think what it stands for. With that said, I probably participated in flag raising and lowering in accordance with US Navy regulations about every fourth day for nearly 3 years with respect and the meaning behind it. I'm proud that a ship's photographer me captured me one time saluting and have cherished the photo for 50 years. It was a dreary day on the ship's fan deck when this flag was lowered. I've used it many times and this is a doctored old black and white photo with effects to dramatize it to share my feelings.

If someone takes the effort to display the flag in a respectful manner I don't quibble too much with the technicalities. I appreciate what they are doing and share their pride in our nation. I don't feel the same about using the flag for commercial self promotion. A huge flag to mark the location of a business, as a ruse to get around signage codes, is not a "patriotic display" in my mind. But, people are free to do whatever they want with the flag...that's what the flag is really about.

I don't want to derail the thread so I'll keep it short. It is a 1999 Jayco, built on a Ford E250. Apparently Jayco only made Bs for a few years, I have seen 3 or 4 online and the Jayco Forum never heard of them. It is a minimalist B, no shower, I pulled out the recycling toilet and put in a porta potty. It has a one burner stove, microwave, compresor frig, sink and 2 jackknife couches that makes a full width bed in the back.

In Romania, the campers were flying flags from many countries—the campground looked like a UN convention. We finally found someone who could tell us in English that the flags represented the countries their children had emigrated to. Lots of Stars and Stripes.
