Default Attaching a new side door hinge on RT

I have a y2k Versatile 200. After the "fun" of installing the rear door plastic hinges a coupla years ago I'm now faced with doing the same on long door. One of many projects on this winter's to do list.

I recently had to replace the A/C cover that blew off in Irma. Thankfully a neighbor came walking over with it the day after asking "Is this yours"? I had to buy all new well nuts and screws, stepping up one size for the screws.

Having experienced how much easier life is when using well nuts verses trying to pop rivet in a very awkward position, I'm strongly considering using well nuts for the van body side of the hinge with stainless screws and would use standard stainless nuts, washers and screws for the door part. Looking at number 10 stainless screws I did use a screw/rivet combo on the other doors and so far all is good.

Comments? TIA

TIA

Sounds like you are getting it done well. I don't know what rivet nuts you are using, but on the soft material areas like fiberglass and other plastics, I like to use the collapsible style of rivet nuts, to get a large contact area to prevent pull through.

Thanks James for the input. Let me clarify. I plan on using the rubber wellnuts in the body part and locknuts on the door. The rubber ones expand quite a bit iff'n I get the right length.

But now that you woke up another coupla brain cells for me maybe I will go the Rivnut avenue.

Well nuts were a modified nogo. I did use on on each end to temporarily hold up the hinge/door assembly which helped a bunch as far as holding things in place for drilling new rivet holes.

With the well nuts the drilling had to extend up a ways so I wound up drilling into metal, furnace? At this point I decided to go the rivet route.

All done and works well. I now have more storage which has not really been an issue having a 200.
i'll use it for stuff not normally used much as it is not really a convenient place to get to compared to the other storage areas.

This idea wound up being a no go. Clearance issues above the door hinge. I was able to mount a well nut on each end of the hinge and it helped a bunch on the install.
