Default Class B as Florida residence?

I have a 17ft trailer that is my legal residence through a mail service in FL. I love it. I am thinking of getting a used Class B Campervan, since I would rather drive my house than pull my house. Does anyone know how *small* an RV can be a legal residence in FL? I think if it has a VIN, you are good.

I am also considering a truck-camper, but I have Nissan Frontier crew-cab with a short 5' bed, so there are only a few options available. Can a truck-camper be a residence in FL? I don't think they have VINs, so I guess not.

My current plan is to get a used Class B.

Ignorant of Florida laws, but interested in the question. Why, if you buy an RV, do you have to cease using the trailer as your legal residence? If you've already set up "residence" through the mail service, what does it matter what your actual shelter is, trailer or RV?

Having a vehicle registered and using a mail service in Florida does not make you a Florida resident. Depending on the other state you live in you could end up with a tax liability. Many states go after people who try to establish Florida residency without actually moving there and do it mostly to avoid taxes in their home state.

Here are a few informative links.

If you are already a Florida resident why are you asking these questions?

If you are a Florida resident it doesn't matter what you drive or where you live. You could even be homeless and still be a Florida resident.

I don't know the exact laws in Florida, but typically if you have a truck camper in a truck that is used primarily for camping you can license it as an RV which would take.care of your Vin number issue.
So presumably if you never take.your camper out, you are IN FACT an RV.

Have you tried contacting the mail service to see if they can answer your question?

If you already have established Florida residency, you keep it until you establish residency in another state. As was pointed out, you can be homeless, a vagrant, it doesn't matter in terms of residency.

Here is a link to the state's Florida Residency Guide. It can answer any questions you may have.

Generally residency issues arise in the state one leaves behind, especially when establishing new residency in a tax haven like Florida or Texas. New York, for one, is known to chase down its "residents", especially if they have residual business connections, bank accounts, real property or other assets remaining in NY. They particularly hate seeing those income tax revenues leaving the state.
