Default Diesel Hydronics Question

We have a 2013 Great West Legend SE with an Espar (Esbar?) diesel hydronics system that both heats our furnace and our hot water.

Can the furnace be used when the rig has been winterized and there is no water in the system?

I'm 99% sure that it can, but not 100%. We are heading somewhere cold and may continue to have it winterized while wanting to be warm inside the unit when we camp.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

...........Rocky

Yes.

This assumes, of course, that by "no water in the system", you are only talking about the fresh water system. The Espar coolant loop, naturally, still needs to have its normal water/glycol mix.

Thanks Avanti. Hopefully we won't have to "winterize" while on the road, but at least we can have our space heated if we do.

Your glycol (antifreeze) is heated by the diesel burner and then exchanges its heat with air. In the case of hot water it is just passing through the glycol to water heat exchanger and if there is no water it is just passing through to repeat the cycle in an enclosed system. After our glycol passes through both the glycol is still about 160 degrees as waste return so is bundled with insulated water lines and grooved down the side of the fresh water tank to keep it winterized. We seem good with that down to -5 degrees F. tested so far.
