We fill our tank at home or from a good source and use it for cooking, washing and drinking. When we can't find a good source, we will buy bottled water to drink.

Generally, we use the storage tank on our RV. If we have to fill it while we are away from home, we'll buy bottled water. We have good house water that goes through several filtering stages.

we fill gallon containers from our filtered water supply at the house and also carry, by the case, purchased bottles of water.

we use the Van's water only for the purpose of washing dishes, brushing teeth, toilet flushing and the outside shower to clean the dogs (should they get muddy).

Default Water

We use water from the fresh water tank that is filled before we leave home.
when that is gone we buy 5 gallon bottles and fill the tank.

We never put anything but good drinkable water in the fresh water tank.

We prefer bottled water for drinking and cooking. I clean the holding tank several times during the summer but only use it for dishes, showers and for the "head".

WE fill the fresh water tank with good drinking water...either our home water or from bottled 5 gallon jug fulls.

1. Fill the freshwater tank from home then later from dump stations that have a potable water hose. We boil this water and put it in a container to cool in the fridge.

2. We fill a large water container if the weather is cold. ( winter camping)

3. We buy bottled Water in large jugs if there are no clean taps or hose to fill from.

4. Our dog Geronimo drinks the same water as we do.

We fill our tank with "home water" and we bring large bottles of water from home. We know the water is good and we don't take a chance of getting sick from drinking water from a source which we are not sure is safe.
Everyone has their own reasons for choosing where they get their "drinking water."

Study after study has shown bottled water is no better/purer than tap water in general. My DW insistes on buying it, though. I explained my position, then shut up about it. I will use the emptiy bottles and refill from the tap for convenience sake. On road trips I use the fresh water tank, and she uses bottled.

For drinking and coffee we bring our filtered water in reusable containers from home mainly because I just think it is better water that I can get elsewhere. We also fill the tanks at home and most of the time on short trips they last. On longer trips we fill at campsites and have a filter attached to our hose. We quit buying bottled water except sometimes at a service station convenience store I might buy a single bottle if I drank all the cold water.

I take water from home and put it in 1-liter empty Coke bottles. I want my coffee to taste the same as home. I also take it from home because I want my dogs to not have a change. However, if I run out of "home" water, I refill the bottles from what I hope is a reliable source.

I have always drank the water out of my tap at home. Never bought into the bottled water thing. Because I do not always know where the water comes from in a campground or other source, I usually bring a few bottles of water from home or buy the 79 cent / gallon spring water. I usually cook with the water available locally.

We do not feel comfortable drinking from our water tank, but have never had a problem in 50+ years of camping when we use the potable water at our campsite, wherever we may be - from Florida to Alaska! Just fill a couple of gallon containers and refill when necessary. After a trip, I clean and sterilize them with Clorox, ready for the next trip. Our house water is filtered with pitchers.

We buy bottled water for everyday drinking. We do use tank water for making coffee/tea or other drinks. I only fill tank with known good water.

We always use camp water which we put into a couple of containers in the camper and refill as needed. Would buy water if boondocking without a camp supply. We never drink the tank water, but will brush our teeth with it. Never had a problem with any park's water, whether an R.V. park or a state/federal park .

I was kind of surprised at the answers so far......Being a nubee to RVing I had bought into the idea of a double filtration system. First takes out the big stuff (Sediment) with el cheepo filter, and the second to eliminate bad taste, smell, chlorine, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, E. coli, heavy metals, and other nasty stuff with a .9 micron filter that has sufficient flow......

Granted, it's not perfect, and requires an outlay of $150-200 to get started and then maintenance cost of filters later, not to mention treating the holding tanks as needed, but I think I want the convenience of turning the tap for water, and not having to deal with buying bottled water unless I find the bottle nice to have for spill purposes while driving.

Not to mention it would allow me to run with a lessor load of water to improve fuel mileage and fill up in anticipation of dry camping.

Am I being naive ?
