Dual Conversion for Roadtrek

Anyone have experience with a dual rear wheel conversion on Roadtrek Chevy van models? We just bought a 2010 Roadtrek 210 Popular that has a dual conversion, done by a company that apparentlly specializes in this. Anything to watch for? Pros and cons?

Depending on what rear axle you have, semi floating or full floating, you probably should take a look at what the rear hub and differential temperatures are running.


Especially if it is a semi floating axle, the moving of the wheels outboard like duals do can put more stress and generate more heat in the wheel bearings.


A cheap infrared temperature gun, even from Harbor Freight will work well enough to get the hub temps and differential cover temp so you can see where you are at. Take the temps after a decent length highway run in warm weather.

I haven't seen it done but have read that there are two floating axles, one for single rear wheel and one for duals.

I'd like to see some pics too and know who that company is-

Conversion of Roadtrek 210 Popular to duallies was done by Arrowcraft Products, Royal Oak , Michigan according to the sticker on the door (see photo). Not sure if ths is was done by the original owner up front or later on. Also, see attached pix showing the dual wheels and extended fender. Still looking into valve extensions for the inner wheels.

Looks like they just bolted dual wheels to a Dana 60 rear end and added some fender lips. They may have used wheel spacers on the rear end too, hard to tell from the images.

Normally dual wheel setups are installed on full floating axles like the Dana 70S that is installed on some Roadtreks. It can handle more weight than a semifloating axle like the Dana 60S.

I zoomed in on the image of the rear wheels...it sure looks like there is a spacer installed between the wheel and the axle hub.

Like booster said, this would make for some hot bearings on the semifloating axle with the dual wheels (extra leverage applied to the single wheel bearing)

But, why? The Arrowcraft sticker states it doesn't increase the GVWR.
