Default Fire extinguisher recall

Just saw this on Facebook this evening. Covers approximately 40 million fire extinguishers sold in the US & Canada since 1973. Check your extinguishers.

Check the US site posted by Gryphon and also the Canadian site:Expanded Recall: Kidde recalls Fire Extinguishers with Plastic Handles - Recalls and safety alerts

The model numbers are different on the two sites.

With mine being on the Canadian website. Since I suppose it was originally sold in Canada to Roadtrek.

So far it has worked well, just sits there and looks nice with full pressure.

I also have a Roadtrek with a recalled extinguisher. This is so far proving problematic with the different model numbers in dealing with Kidde.

Aside from condoms and motorcycle tires, fire extinguishers are another thing that you do not want to fail when being used.

Default Fire extinguisher recall

Went to the Kidde web site, entered the required info for my 12year old garage fire extinguisher and they are sending me a new replacement. The one in my Interstate is a First Alert model with a metal valve - so no issues.

I should have clarified. The extinguisher that I have was obtained by RT in Canada, hence a Canadian only model number. When entered into the U.S. site, no good. I tried the Canadian site, it does not like it when you enter a zip code into the postal code space.

I called Kidde US, was given a different phone number for the recall. I called them, she told me to call Canada rebate number. I called a few times and I get a message that the overflow mail box is full. I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling that this will be easy.

I sent an email to Kidde US on Friday, so far no answer, but it's early in that game yet.

So yeah, issues. But at least they are first world issues, not like having no electric or water for six weeks running.

Enjoy tour new extinguisher.

You have to ask a snowbird to get it for you,
then bring it to FL when they make their annual migration.

Hi Steve,

I had about the same issues with the Canadian product. But one issue with my model is that it is not recalled on the Kidde website, but the Canadian government site says yes. I also filled out some contact info on the Canadian Kidde website so far hearing nothing.

If you just need a random postal code, use R0H 1J0. It's a small town just outside of the city I live in.

I don't think that would work as they will want to send it to that address. Maybe I'll wind up using a US model number if something else doesn't work out.

Thanks.

would I be correct in assuming that you had the Canadian original extinguisher? If so would you mind sharing the procedure?

Wow, dealing with Kidde was a pleasure...far from what I expected! Thanks for posting this - I wound up going 3 for 4; two for boat and one in the shop. One was dated '91, and '02 and then '07. Ron

Apparently Kidde has changed some things. Different set up in Canada and the US has also been re-trained. No problem now, easy peasy.

This is going to cost Kidde a boat load, no doubt.

Same thing here getting the run around with our RT unit also. Waiting to see if they answer the email sent to customer service. Gave up on the phone, now when you call the Canada number won’t talk to you if in the US. Must be using off shore answering services way they sound.

The person I talked to was very helpful with the Canadian model I have and is based out of the Tampa area. The Canadian number greeting gave me the US phone number. It went very well, much better than last week.

Fastest way to get it fixed I found, was go to FB page and leave a comment. They pm me right way and set me up with a rep. She had taken care right away. Sending me the US version. Nice and quick after 9 phone calls.

The plastic handle model (E10) in my newish Travato is recalled on the Canadian site but not on the US site. Is that an oversight on Kidde's part? Because the US site uses a menu to select the model, I can't submit.

True, but on the Kidde 'Canadian' website it is not recalled.

No they doing two different recalls. Easiest thing to do is what I did. Comment on Kidde FB page. They responded really quick. PM them your email and they will ask for some info. Get model and your address and they will send the US version.
