Default Front bed for Roadtrek 210 Popular

Has anyone bought the front bed for the 210 from Roadtrek? Kind of expensive if I remember right. Do you use your front seat area for an extra bed? I have a 10 yr old that would be greatful to get off the floor. Thanks.

I built a PVC pipe frame that uses the 3rd seat back with the driver and 3rd seat bottom to create a mattress. I made it for my 5'-10" son to sleep on. He has slept on it several times, as has my wife a couple of times, and it has worked fine. Take a look and see what you think.

This confusing set of instructions from the 2016 210PC owner's manual:

To set up a front bed with the optional folding mattress, turn the front passenger side captain's seat so that it is facing
outward toward the front door, remove the second row seat back by lifting it up, and place the folding mattress on the front
and second row seat bottom cushions. When the front seat is in position facing the door, slide it as far back (toward the
center aisle) as possible to accommodate the folding mattress.
This configuration is only possible with the standard bathroom - enclosed bathroom models do not have the second row seat.

$429 gets you a folding mattress which is supported by the front and rear passenger seats. You could probably get one made up from a foam mattress shop for a fraction of that.

Here is the writeup and pictures from the Yahoo site.

My adult son is planning to spend the night with us in our Roadtrek. I came up with a way to use the backrest from the 3rd seat to create a bed. PVC water pipe, elbows and tees make a frame to support the backrest between the 3rd seat bottom and the front seat.

The pieces are press fit together, and can be taken apart for storage.

The bed seems very sturdy. Your feet hang over the end of the front seat if over 5' 8". If this causes a problem I may need to come up with something to provide support.

FWIW. On my 2005 210 Pop, you turn the front passenger seat as shown in peteco's photos. Then slide out the drawer under the rear seat, raise the hinged block at the front of the drawer and place the rear seat back cushion in the space between the front and back seats. The drawer eliminates the need for a separate frame to support the center section.

Roadtrek changed the seat design starting in 2006, eliminating the seat bed setup you show for the 2005.

Just getting around to this project. Peteco, what size pipe did you use? It looks like 3/4" but wanted to make sure as it could affect the dimensions.

Thanks.

I don't remember and don't have access to the van right now. It may be a day or so before I can get that for you.

Default Peteco project

I was really excited to see this project. We wanted a 3rd bed option. Were you able to get the size of the pvc?

Default Peteco and Deano 3rd seat projects

Peteco and Deano,
I am continually impressed with the resourcefulness of people like you two.
As the Captain would say, "Scottie, I need more (brain) power!"
Thank you for sharing your projects.

Sorry for the delay. The PVC is 1" ID and 1-1/4" OD. Let us know how it works for you.
