Default How do you access the internet on the road?

A poll to see what our preferred method of internet access is when traveling.
A monthly or prepaid plan of some sort from AT&T, Verizon, etc. with a USB stick, mobile hub, or cell phone tethering.
Free, or short term paid, wifi access from Starbucks, McDonalds, internet cafe, etc.
Both, a paid for plan, and free wifi when I can get it.
No access, can't be bothered checking email or surfing while on the road.

Good points guys.
Ok, I've reworded the question to ask about your preferred method of access while on the road,
and apparently by popular demand, I've added a missing option of "both" (plan and free wifi) option.
Please revote on this one, at your leisure.

Actually, both choices. Free wifi wherever you can find it so your limited plans don't get charged.

I have a data plan on my phone that is currently unlimited (fingers crossed). I connect to WiFi for the laptop and iPad where possible. If I am in range for data service on the phone and not WiFi, I just tether the laptop to the phone for Internet service.

I have to be online at any moment while in the van. So the hotspot option on the iphone through Verizone works great. Reasonable pricing starting at 20.00/ month.

Canadian side? The one I knew was just off the QEW on the Niagara River side. Looked like
a good park, typically KOA.

None of the Provincial Parks or the National park had WiFi on our PEI trip. However, there was a restaurant within walking distance that had free WiFi at each one. Useful to at least get emails, get a weather forecast etc., on a smartphone or iPod type device if you are just walking by. The internet is almost a must have tool. For example, you can check the status of the Confederation Bridge in bad weather to see if it is open to RV type traffic. I think the Provincial Parks and and National Parks should offer WiFi access even if they made it time-limited it to make sure people get out and still enjoy the outdoors.

I switched all my e-mail to Yahoo.com a couple years ago. I have a laptop & IPod, and find McDonald's very convenient on the road. Oftentimes I can sit in the RT and pick it up and get all the messages and hit the road again. Don't want to go the phone route - I don't do the techie stuff well...KISS for me!! Safe travels.

While we're on the subject of suggesting improvements to encourage tourism, how about adding more rest areas with actual restrooms, for RV and other highway travelers here in Ontario and probably Canada? We were thinking the other day about how well serviced the US Interstate road systems are when compared to Ontario's highways. I'm not sure about other provinces. Although the Maritimes, and Quebec seemed better, iirc. One thing we've noted was the difference between the Niagara River Parkway and the St. Clair River Parkway in that regard. Almost every park and parkette along the SCR Parkway has restrooms or a pit toilet. Niagara, nope.

Why would you come down from Owen Sound to go to Niagara? It's beautiful up there.

Niagara on the Lake is a nice place to visit for a few hours, if you have time, and it's just up the Niagara Parkway a few miles. Got a quaint main street, a nice golf course, and some pretty little parks, as well as the old Fort.

We are stopped for the night in Watson Lake, Yukon in a small RV Park across road from the World famous Sign Forest. We have FREE WiFi included with the camp fee of $23.10 CAN.
BTW - Washrooms & showers are very clean & modern & they have laundry machines...
This is a great Trip - Just Do IT! Ric.
