Default I am a newbie

I just joined the forum here.
I don't know what is "Class B" RV, however, I have been thinking of getting a used Safari and having converted by GTRV in Vancouver or trying to find an already
converted minivan. Is a mini camper van classfied as Class B?
Our friend has a 1998 GTRV Astro and that is why we are interested in it. We are excited since she told us the conversion alone would cost only $7,000, however, someone we met yesterday told us it would cost $15,000 to $20,000. We are willing to spend up-to $20,000 for a converted van, so if the conversion would cost more than $15,000, we would rather look for a van already converted. Domestic minivan campers are very rare here.

Type B Motorhome
Overview

Commonly called van campers, Type B motorhomes are built using an automotive manufactured van or panel-truck shells. Van campers drive like the family car, but offer the comforts and conveniences of home.

Size: 16-22 ft
Costs: From $41,000 to $100,000 new
Sleeps: Up to 4

Features

Easy to drive and maneuver in downtown settings. Home-like conveniences are standard, including bathroom, sleeping, dining and kitchen facilities and storage. Full stand-up room is achieved by the raised roof and sometimes by the use of dropped floors, for extra head room inside.
As you can see it is a pretty generous definition.

In any case, welcome to the forum.

I'd guess that it would be cheaper to buy an already converted used van. Hopefully, GTRV sales page will be functional soon. http://www.gtrv.com/shop and checkout the GTRV Yahoo Group http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/gtrvwesty/ if you haven't already.

I don't really know what you are looking at or want. But if you are just looking at a mini van with a bed that would be very inexpensive now if you want to add a higher roof that would be more the same with a toilet or sink as you would also need to add holding tanks. A small all electric refrigerator can be put in almost anything. I also don't know what you can put into a mini van but in a full size van you can put a lot of items and money if you want ALL the convienences.
I think the end result would be a class B but the $$$ depends on what you add and to what.
