Default Never ending house reno...........

Anyone else here take on more than they thought with a reno?

I coming up on one year owning this house and still have a long way to go. We're mostly doing it ourselves and haven't hired anyone since last Spring.

I will contract out a new garage................ I'd love to be able to park a Class B inside! Have to sell the C to get the garage built.

Mark, We've been in this house for 20 years and are still reno...ing. I don't know if it will ever end. We've been going at it one room at a time, plus changing a few bedrooms into entertainment and studies, etc., as the kids left. When I finally thought I was done, DW decided to redo the kitchen again....and then the bathroom....and so on. I've done most of it by myself, having been in the house building industry in my earlier years, but I'm thinking the next time we do something, I might suggest moving to a new house with the things DW wants changed.

Not so much taken on too much reno, rather too much house.
We moved from the big smoke in 2007 after looking at numerous GTA areas to
try to find something small and manageable as we looked for a more relaxed lifestyle.
As the pace of home sales was as fast as we've ever seen it at that time, and several
nice places slipped through our fingers, we picked one and jumped in.
As it turned out, it's just more house than we need and we're always looking at MLS
listings from all over the place, with a view to downsize at our next opportunity.
(there were significant renos required when we bought this one, very little of it
was done by us, most of it was contracted out to pro$$$ )

You know what's frustrating? I designed and built my own home 27 years ago. Now I am facing one renovation after another. Three years ago I gutted our kitchen and completely rebuilt it. Then I ripped up 740 sf of parquet wood flooring and put down imported Italian porcelain tiles. It looks as if soon we will have to redo our bathrooms. You build a "new" home instead of buying an "older" home in hopes of never having to face that kind of work. But if you last too long it catches up with you anyway.

Other improvements I have made in the past decade is re-roof the house, asphalt pave 400 feet of driveway, build a front porch, build a deck and build a screen porch. The only project I look forward to doing now is build an outdoor brick pizza and bread oven.

I should just sell it and full-time in a B.

Renos aren't only for houses though, as many of us are finding out.
If you full timed in a B, you'd have to upgrade the plumbing, and the floor, and the shower,
and the TV and stereo, seat coverings, bed/sofa mechanicals, insulation, and the list goes on.....

After a break....... back at it.

Last room . It is 12' x 11' basement utility / mechanical room. Going to do the walls and ceiling. Build in shelves. Leave the floor as is - painted concrete.
Gotta reroute the venting for the HRV (air exchanger).

That's it for inside

Then outside - can't wait to start outdoor projects!

Or, you can just go and buy a brand new travel trailer, and get all that stuff done for you.
