It can be done. Thetford sells a macerator (Thetford 70224) that is designed as adetachable unit and has a gray water bypass. To convert to the bypass, they added a short section of 1" clear tubing between the pump outlet and the hose.

Scroll down to their twist-off model. Hard to find one for sale, however.

I bought this unit and have it permanently attached via the twist-on collar.
