Default Noisy Onan 2.8Kw gensets

Aside from some homemades and at least one "Gen-turi" I've found online,
does anyone have any DIY or "store-bought" type genset muffling systems that
they might recommend? In additon to the OEM muffler setup?
I understand there's a (somewhat less than effective) muffler located somewhere
inside the genset housing. I was thinking there might be an additonal external
removable device (that you could add to the exhaust pipe) I could buy or build.
My genset is mounted under the reaer end of my Roadtrek, as many are.

Any thoughts or suggestions (no matter how bizarre) would be appreciated.

Mike, I put on a Onan Resonator a couple of years ago, quieted it down somewhat....$36 at DYER'S RV Store. Then again my hearing isn't what it used to be, ha!! Ron

Onan Resonator? Never saw that in my google wanderings.
I've had a subsequent google, and found some pretty extreme mods (since I don't weld),
but this web page has a dual Onan Resonator/Super Trapp spark arrestor combo.

Thanks for the ideas RJ. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Mike if the Super Trap you mention is the "baffles" that attach to the end of the gen tailpipe, I tried that also. Got the set-up from Jack's Small Engines online.....another forget it for me item - but then that was just my idea!!! Ron

I am slowly and I'll restate slowly working on a tail pipe extention on mine mostly for taking the fumes further away, the added pipe will quiet it down some also. I found that a great fit on the Onen tail pipe is a sink drain. from that I plan to get it to a larger size to reduce back pressure. I want to have a couple pipes that I can combine so I can store it easy and something to keep it off the ground so if any grass is around it won't start a grass fire.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I may try the spark arrestor first as it looks like it might be
the easiest. Not sure I want to start "cutting and splicing" stuff into the exhaust pipe yet.

I just got the Onan Resonator for my Roadtrek. I have not mounted it yet but slipped it over the pipe the other day when I was running the gen, It did seem to quiet down a bit but more mellowed the sound so it was less irritating. It looks like it will fit on the angle portion of the exhaust pipe when I get around to the installation. I think it was about $19 at the Onan Shop.

Are you going to cut the exhaust pipe to install it under the van?
Or I was thinking it could be added to the end if you were bold enough
to shorten the stock exhaust pipe a bit. I'm also trying to find out if the
spark arrestor would help as well.
I know what you mean about "annoying" - mine sounds like a lawn mower on steroids.

Thanks for the ipnut.
