Default Priming a genset

Has anyone experimented with a method of priming a genset? They always seem to bleed the gas back to the tank and it is wasteful to crank the engine until the gas getsto the carb.

I have read that newer units have a prime function by pressing the "off" switch. Seems that a diode installed to run the electric pump but now close the starter relay would be the answer. A pressure switch with a "ready" light would comp[lete the system.

I know - - start it more often!

Thanks for reading.

I carry a can of starting fluid in my boat because many more than one time it has failed to start at a bass tournament. Apparently the same problem as your genset, the gas drains out of the carbs.

I'm not sure that they make a one way valve for gas lines but that would stop the draining if it were available .

On the Roadtrek group, I read a suggestion to start the van motor before starting the generator.

I don't know if that'll help or not.

My Onan has the switch you describe - press it until it lights up - then start the generator.

We didn't try the gen until a few days after we brought our RT home. It turned over but wouldn't catch. I did start the van's engine and then tried it again, and it fired up (Onan Microlite '02 RT 190P).
