Default Re: Vehicle Battery Replacement

This morning went to start up my RT all I had was the familiar click sounds, charged up the battery RT started up, then shut down.

After awhile started it up it ran as long as I had my foot on the accelerator pedal, took my foot off and the RT shut off.

My battery is 7 years old, will be getting a new battery, wondering what folks think of the Interstate Battery being either the MTP-78DT-Mega-Tron Plus - 85 Months - 800 CCA, or the MTP-27-Mega-Tron Plus - 85 Months - 750 CCA.

Also wondering what folks thought about a Sears Battery, and which one would be OK for my RT.

Also anybody have any suggestions as to why the RT after starting, keeping my foot on the gas pedal it runs, take my foot off the pedal RT shuts down.

Vehicle is a 2002 Dodge, 190 Popular, 360 engine, V8/5.9L

Have received much information regarding my problem, one individual
RJsfishin from Winston, OR a member of _www.rv.net_ (http://www.rv.net) posted the following:

You messed up the computers mind,....it forgot how many R's it idles at
Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes sometimes fixes it.

I did what he said, I disconnected the battery cables from the battery for 5
minutes, reconnected the cables, and by golly it worked, started right up.
It did run a little rough, let it run for a few minutes, did not have my foot
on the gas pedal, disconnected the cables from the battery.

I am now charging the battery once again, will reconnect the cables to the
battery in the morning will see if it starts up, and if it runs with out the
foot on the pedal.

Will have the battery checked, just may purchase a new battery as we will
be going on a trip to Bend, OR for our 25 year old granddaughters wedding.

Appreciate all those who responded, must say these Forums are the Greatest
for information.

Thank You,

Ron

Ron, the battery is seven years old....replace it now and continue on happily. I can foresee Murphy striking you out when your somewhere that makes it really inconvenient - and you will be saying all kinds of things under your breath...or out loud. Good luck, the other Ron

I've heard of disconnecting the battery from the vehicle as a cure for several computer based problems.
I have found when the engine idles rough or it dies, it may also be an engine/oxygen sensor trying to enrich or thin
the fuel/air mix and causing the rough running or stalling. Might be worth a trip to a Chrysler dealer for a quick
diagnostic.
Wonder if Markopolo's engine computer (Scanguage II) diag toy that shows the rpms and other stuff might tell you
what might be wrong?
I still want one but haven't found the cash to proceed........yet.
