Default Replacement House Battery

Will be replacing my one house battery, it is the Exide Mariner, 500 MCA, 120 Minutes Reserve, it is now 7 years old, will replace with 2 house batteries.

Checking out BJ's Wholesale Club they have the Exide Nautilus Maintenance Free Battery, XXHD-17-24, 1000 MCA, 800 CA, 115 RC., price is $79.99 each.

Battery is the same size as my original house battery.

Wondering what the opinion is of this battery for a house battery.

I have checked google find no info on this battery, knowing Mark he will find info on the battery.

Ron,

From the chart above, the XXHD series is a starting battery. It is not suitable as a house battery.

There are some good batteries and some not-so-good. And there is the availability of quick and satisfying service. For some of us, that has put Wal-Mart at the top of the list since each and every Super Center will honor their warantaee right there right now, no questions asked.

When I had a motor home, I used two of Wal-Marts biggest deep cycle batteries, sold by them for trolling fisherpersons and other deep cycle use.

Default Replacement House Battery

It was suggested to get 2, 6Volt batteries, if I did, would I be able to get the same size as my current battery to fit my battery box, this being 2 batteries with out modifing the battery box in my 2002 RoadTrek.

Also what battery manufacture would be best?

Would need the same height, width, and length on each battery as my current Exide Mariner battery in my 2002 RoadTrek.

Any suggestions Mark, or anyone?

Ron

That's excellent, you obviously know how take care of a battery. I've read many posts from people having had to replace a battery after 2 or 3 years.

I'm not in the the 2 x 6 volt camp Yes it works. Yes you can gain capacity but often people compare apples to oranges like 2 small group 24 12v's against 2 6v. The 6v's probably weigh 20% more - so of course you'll have greater capacity.

I've rambled on about this before here:

Basically Ron, get the biggest, heaviest batteries that will fit. Deep cycle batteries are best, dual purpose would be a close second.

Here's a post detailing what I did when I replaced the single Exide battery with 2 Costco (Interstate at the time) group 27 size dual purpose batteries:

http://classbforum.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=52

My battery capacity went from 95ah to 230ah.

In my current RV I installed three group 24 batteries in parallel (285ah in total). I had to go with group 24 size because that's the biggest that would fit in the trays. Again, I bought them from Costco.
