As far as I know the main two options for a power door are the Ador models from Russia or the one from powerdoorandstep.com. Ador makes a rope, pulley model that is installed completely inside the door and wall as well as a rack and pinion model that is more heavy duty that is installed on a track on the interior door panel. I just finished installing a custom rack and pinion power door on my Promaster. It's my favorite feature thus far.

I wouldn't even consider the powerdoorandstep.com as it is outrageously expensive.

I spoke to these people concerning the door for the Promaster and they told me that it comes from Israel.

Jostalli...
What is source of your "custom" system?

Mine is based on the Ador rack and pinion kit. It's customized to work with the Promaster as the Ducato kits are slightly different.

PM me if you have questions.

I'm 2-3 years out on getting something on the Promaster... hopefully I'll remember this discussion when that time comes. LOL

Hopefully, by then, it will be an option. Definitely on my list

Way back when I was first shopping for my downsize, I communicated with Jim H at RT about their installing it... and their decision after a couple weeks was no. I also spoke to GWV before they imploded and they said yes they would do it. I suspect that it will need to be an option from Promaster for it to become widespread in RVs.

Default The Montreal RV Show First Impressions

Got into an interesting discussion at the Montreal RV Show about the Roadtrek and Hymer deal. The rumours are that Hymer is in the process of negotiating important investments in Roadtrek (buying shares?) that might eventually lead to building a new plant specifically for building Hymercars and even C's and A's!

It might only be speculations and it might not work, but it seems very logical that the Roadtrek investor group is after Hymer's cash, not only for an engineering agreement. It makes no sense to help a direct competitor getting into a very competitive market without merging certain activities.

This seems to confirm the general assumption around here that the engineering agreement was likely the first introduction on the way to an arranged marriage...

Yep, the investment group has hit the timeframe they usually sell in, and with the recent loss of market share that Roadtrek has seen in a good market time, Roadtrek is probably as high or higher in value than it will be in the near future.

Could be good for everyone involved, with the probable exception of the Roadtrek management who likely would get phased out.

George B,

Thank you for the great write-up and photos of the Montreal RV Show and the latest news/info/rumor on RT and Hymer.

It's a pleasure! Although I expected to have more fun. To see more Bs. 8% of a very conservative market, even if it's growing, is not very stimulating design-wise.

But it's very important to see the vehicles in person. You get a reality check on some design features you thought were OK. Ex: the shower enclosure in most Bs are simply unusable. I got in all of them and closed the door. No wonder most people don't shower in Bs. Apart from our huge Safari Condo shower, the only one I remember as functional is the Pleasureway Lexor ProMaster but it eats up a lot of space.

I was really pleasantly surprised by the Safari Condo Sprinter XL Flex layout. They used the same shower enclosure as the ProMaster and it works, even with the 4" slimmer Sprinter body.

The front new layout without the back seats help, although I haven't seen in person the first layout they did in the Sprinter with the front dinette.

The other one that was OK (in terms of space, not aesthetically) was the Gala RV enclosure because the bathroom sink is outside.

We should all go to Dusseldorf Show next year for stimulating design!

Flip-up sinks would help all those small baths.

True!
Let's call Hymer, tell them we are their Focus group and need 12+ tickets and Hymercars waiting for us at the next show campground!
