Default Tire rating requirement for duallys

I'm not ready to replace my tires yet, but in reading a couple of forums, I developed a question. Yes, I could ask there, but there are folks here whose opinion I value and trust more...

Hypothetically, if I have a rear GAWR of 8,000 lbs on dual wheels, do I need to get tires rated at a minimum of 2,000 lbs (8,000/4) or do I need to get tires rated at 4,000 lbs (8,000/2)?

The weight rating is less when installed in a dual configuration, look for dual ratings. A bit of a cushion is always good. It may help you limp to a repair shop if one of the tires gets ruined.

You can't go wrong with following the manufacturers recommended size.. I chose Michelin Defender tires... very pleased.

****** I always go w the heaviest rating because those tires are holding a lot of weight and hitting potholes etc.
This is especially true for steer tires and single rear tires, w a dually you could risk going a little less since you have two and a blowout won't be catastrophic cause it's very unusual to blow both.
