Default vent stack cover or screen

I have a 2007 Roadtrek RS. Has anyone put a vented cover on the sewer stack vent? This is not to seal but to keep the animals out. My other coaches, non-RT, had a vented covers.

I didn't put one on my Roadtrek (it was under a cover often) but I remember reading in a post that some owners had.

A universal type cap should work.

Forum member Ron put screen the top of his. Maybe he'll see this post and explain it or you could send him a message. (click on his name to send a message)

I did fit a cover exactly like the one illustrated, from Camping World.

This year, while travelling down South, I noticed some fancy ones that aligned themselves with the wind to suck the fumes out of the tank. (Like an old chimney draft.) I believe they were for sale in Wal Mart.

I see no problem with or without a cover. You would have to be a pretty desperate animal to want to climb down that pipe!

Question: Would it be a good/great idea to put a cover of some/any sort on the top of the vent stack? Obviously, Roadtrek doesn't seem to think so, as they don't appear to come equipped with one. However, mine will be stored outside, exposed to the elements, and I'm thinking the black (does the grey tank use the vent stack as well? sorry, just occured to me it might, but I can't imagine why it would) tank will slowly fill with water/snow/ice if not covered. Some folks do seem to have covers, and some don't, for differing reasons. I'm just wondering what others think about this reason? Good idea to cover it to keep the rain out?

Thanks for your opinions/thoughts,
Mike.

This is a picture of what I did to keep any critters out of our black tank vent pipe. It was very easy to do and has been very effective. I would be cautious not to use to fine a screen to avoid any chances of obstructing good air flow and preventing good venting of the system.

Hi,
Looks like a good way of keeping critters out. I was wondering if you store your rig outside and whether you cover the vent to prevent rain or snow from getting in over the winter months?

Cheers,
Mike.

I store my rig inside, but if it was being stored outsideI would probably cover up that stack.

Good enough for me then. Off to the RV palace tomorrow for a vent cover.
I store outside, so far, and I don't want to get into tarps and covers for it, in case I need to move it for any reason.
I've antifreezed the gray and black tanks as well, just in case any water does begin to accumulate
over the fall/winter/spring when temps could go sub-zero unexpectedly (like now!!! )
Thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Mike.

Mike
I purchased a small piece of the screen material you saw in the picture from a farm & fleet or tractor supply type store.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. If my local RV specialty shop can't provide the screening, there's a TSC just up the road that probably can.
