Default Winterizing your RV

Yes, it's that time of year for some of us.

A friend of mine gave me this link from Fraserway RV in BC.

They've got some excellent video tutorials online here:

http://main.fraserway.com/parts_service/videos.html

$9.95 for the DVD seems pretty good to me.

You can watch the "Winterizing your RV" section here:

I learned how to make sure you get RV antifreeze in the "city water" connection line by watching the video.

The video is not Class B specific but it is very informative.

I use the pink RV antifreeze after using air to blow out the water in the lines. You don't have to do both, most people will do one or the other.

I use a simple pump to add the pink stuff to the fresh water tank. A pump like the ones that attach to drill would work great.

The video shows bypassing the fresh water tank but my concern is that there could be dips in the pipe from the water pump to the fresh water tank where water could accumulate and freeze so I put the pink RV antifreeze in my fresh water tank.

One of my "low drain point" valves is hard to get to. I don't remember having any "low drain point" valves on the actual water pipes in my Roadtrek.

I do not understand why you can not mix a gallon or two with the water in the tank. If you use pure anti-freeze, the bottle says that it is good down to -50 degrees. We are in Oklahoma and last night it was 15 degrees. A pipe froze. The water was running at 7:00 am but at 9:00 am it would not run.

I stared the engine and let it run for about 15 minutes. The line thawed out and worked fine. We are just starting on a trip that will take us into Colorado. We will need to use our water system for the commode and washing our hands. We have never used the shower and have no plans to use the shower. We do not drink the water, we carry bottled water to drink.

Today I put one gallon of RV anti-freeze into the tank and tomorrow I plan to add another gallon. I figure that this should lower the freezing point of the water and we can still use the water system. Tell me where I am wrong, please.
