If you do go with 215's all around, you might want to keep the best 195 for the spare.

Robert, the tire size on my 2001 is 215 70, not 215 65 is the lower profile ok or will it cause problems in the long run.

You should double check the door jamb as it should list your correct tire size, type and inflation pressure.
according to most Rialta info I have seen, the 65 series was standard fitment for the 16" wheel from 2002-2005 and the 70 series was used on the 15" wheel from 1996-2001

My 2001 calls for the 215 70 . . .
After an exhausting internet search, I find there is a new load rating system , using a two or three digit number (can't find "C" anywhere). It appears something in the high 90's should work - I find very, very few tire descriptions that use "ply" rating. Someone with tire knowledge, is a 90's load rating equivalent to a 8 ply count? I couldn't locate anything on the web that told me.
I intend to go with 215-70 all the way around. If there is a good reason not to someone speak up - several of you say you have or will do it.

The "90's" number you're looking at is a load index, meaning how much weight those tires can safely carry.

The load range is a letter, and designates the ply count. The ply count does not mean that tire actually has that many plies, but it indicates how strong the plies are. It also designated how much weight those tires can carry safely.

As a note, most North American tires sites state the load range. ie 215/70/16 E. Where E is the load range.

Load index is a European rating, load range is north american.

I would be concerned if the Load Rating was in the 90's. The tires should have a load index of 104 or higher.
