Default ECU engine computer control

When the check engine light on my '99 MPV flashed, my mechanic said I needed need a new engine computer. The VW Rialta part # is 021906259S. He said if I found one, it might have to be re-programmed by a dealer. No one on line had that part number, but several salvage yards had Eurovan ECUs bearing part #021906259P. The difference in the last digit refers only to the Rialta, rather than Eurovan, body model. I'm writing this to let everyone know that the "P" Eurovan ECU, when installed by my mechanic, worked just fine, and did not require any re-programming. Don't pay any more than $250 for the used part. (Volkswagen wanted $1,600, plus $250 "core charge," for a "new" S part.)
