Default How does Rialta handle in the wind

Just bought a 2004 and finding it to handel well. But I live in Nevada, and the winds can be fierce here, especially crosswinds. How has your Rialtas held up in high winds?

Thanks

Janet

I haven't had mine very long, but I think it handles the wind better than I had anticipated. It is noticeable, but not particularly uncomfortable. I feel safe.

I have found upgraded shocks and one size larger tires with tougher sidewalls as well as keeping your air spring bags at at least 35 psi helps sway a bit more but consider what a class a gets in comparison driven through Kansas with 40 to 50 mph winds did ok just couldn't go over 65

We have pretty strong winds here in NM. I haven't driven in one of our famous 50 mph dust storms yet, but I did drive in some pretty strong winds one trip between Tucson and Las Cruces. We used to have a VW Westfalia and a small class c. Our "new" rialta was much easier to handle in that wind than both of those vehicles would have been.

Try using 65 psi in the rear air bags, as this will allow more control and weight carring capicitacy. Also run 65 psi in your rear tires and about 60 psi in the front.

The air bags don't increase the weight carrying capacity. They just assist with the spring rate on the rear.

Hi Janet!

The above comments are good advice. I always check my Air Bags and keep them anywhere from 35psi to 45 psi depending on the load. They make such a difference. I find the handling of the Rialta incredible and find it corners better than my 2009 Sebring.

I wrote this story before on here but when I bought my '99 HD in 2010 and drove it back from Florida to Arizona (we have very high winds here and it does just fine) I got chased and had the Rialta at about 102 mph in the heat, slight winds, and AC running. There was a deranged man chasing and attacking vehicles but he was driving an old "Sanford & Son" style truck so I outran him, rather than risk being sideswiped.

I would never have driven my Rialta that fast but it handled smoothly like a dream.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Rialta!

Paul
