Default Torque Conversion

Hi guys, I am definitely new...the Rialta suddenly started sounding like a diesel...we took it to a shop to find out that at its last transmission job, only 2 out of 3 bolts remained...they tightened those and told us we could limp along back to our destination and then get a torque converter job???? Make any sense? Mahalo!
