Motorhome Full Time was wrong on this one. Or they were wrong on the timing. Maybe the Erwin Hymer group wants eventually to bring that 4x4 Sprinter camper in NA but they will have to start selling enough AKTIVs to justify expanding the range.

FYI,

I asked Jim Hamill about the Grand Canyon S on Facebook and was summarily shut down with "That's a Europe model. Can't discuss the future."

So, we either have to deal with the plush RT Agile SS 4x4 or larger RT 4x4s (weak on storage) in order to get some semblance of back country capability.

That's only if you think Roadtrek is the only company that exists.

From a marketing perspective,
it makes no sense to bring in the Sprinter-based Grand Canyon.
Not now. Not yet.

RT's Adventurous and Agile series are doing extremely well. They are pricing them at a premium, and they are still selling like hotcakes.
Bringing in the Grand Canyon will only cannibalize their existing sales.
Why ruin a good thing?

i think Hymer is more interested in the Class A and the trailer markets, because in terms of market size, they are in muliples of the Class B market.

If you want the 144 Sprinter and don't want to wait for custom (e.g. Outside Van, Van Specialties, Sportsmobile Morehead Designs) then there aren't any options other than RT and PW... if you want 4x4 then its only RT. If anyone knows of another noncustom brand in the US on the short sprinter please tell me because I want to buy one.

Note - I know Safari Condo sells in the US but the time frame is the same as a custom build.

The only reason I can see Roadtrek/Hymer bringing in the Grand Canyon is if WGO builds the Sprinter Adventure Concept. However, even that might not make sense for them because WGO will most likely be cheaper... I think if you want short you go with the Aktiv. I really can't fit in a the driver seat of the Promaster so I would love something built on the short sprinter.

What kind of "back country" terrain are you considering?
