Default 1999 Dodge Ram Van 3500

Hey all,

I have a Leisure Travel camper van on the said base. I am trying to change the headlight bulb, the manual says there are two tabs that I can lift to pull the headlight out, however, in looking at the headlights on my van there are no tabs...anyone have a similar generation model? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

The only recommendation that I have is that you should buy either a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your 1999 Dodge Ram Van chassis- it will be an invaluable resource to you.

We have a 2001 LTV 3B we've had since it was new and the headlights look exactly like this graphic from the Dodge manual, but I've never changed the bulbs.

There are two tabs at the top of the assembly that holds the reflector in place. That is how you pull the light out to access the bulbs. I just did time recently.

Hi all,

Thank you for your responses. Unfortunately after buying the Haynes repair manual, it did not offer any help as it said the exact same thing the owners manual said...which is to lift two tabs that I do not have.

Mine doesn't have the two tabs. It's weird. I don't get it.

Does it say anything about the passenger side?

Were you able to do it?

I think* that they are talking about the two tabs on top of #6 part (but I think it's actually one piece that clicks on top of a tab on part #4 or #5). Then you unscrew the bulb. You should feel it "clicking" in place.

*Sorry, I don't have this van but I'm trying to help you out.

Thank you for the input. That headlight shown is for the Ram truck and not the van.

I think what I will have to do is remove the grill and see if I can remove the headlight assembly from there on. This is kind of getting frustrating. [emoji38]

Odd that the manual says something different about the two front headlights. Not even Haynes had an answer and I paid money for that.

Oops... Sorry. I was sure it was for the van. This link may help where it says to change the headlight bulbs: "You have to remove the headlight assembly. Pull up those two brackets up top that are above the aiming screws and the assembly will pull forward."

Maybe it has to do with the change in the body starting in '97 or '98.

This picture is of my 1999 Dodge 3500 Xplorer. My fingers are on the tabs. They lift straight up and then you can move the light. They are stiff on mine and a little wiggling helps.

You can spray a little glass cleaner on the tabs and it will help lube the mechanism. Makes them a lot easier to disengage.

Dang...I think I finally figured it out. The tabs must have came off from the previous owner and did not mention it to me. The slots are there but the metal piece the plastic tabs pulled on are snapped in tight.

Hey man,

I sold my van about 2 months ago. Never did figure it out except to remove the front grille. But of a pain in the butt but got it done.

Sorry for three late reply.

Cheers!
