Default Preparing for leak repair

Ok, I have a small leak at the front windshield both sides of my 05 Roadtrek 190. I’ve noticed the caulking is separating in the front leaving a small gap at the roof cap. I also have separation at the back. Facing down hill the water gets in. Facing uphill no leaks. I bought a tube of Lexel to recaulk. The question I have is should I remove as much as the old caulk I can or just caulk over. lexel states is will work on all surfaces.

I've used it successfully over, on Roadtrek caulk, an 04/05.
