Default Suggestions on painting plastic door at gas tank

The black paint on my 05/04 Chev RT190P plastic door covering the gas fill started to peel last summer. Today it was looking so bad I used the pressure washer (1000psi) and the rest of it come right off!!!
Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for repainting and hopefully it will hold this time? Looks like it would be easy to remove the whole assembly. I even thought of changing it out to one of the chrome types I've seen.....seen the price tag -- paint is much cheaper. Thanks, Ron

I am not familier with the particular part but I use to be a bodyman/painter for many years. The proper procedure is to sand it with about 180 grit paper then prime it. Sand the primer with about 240 grit paper then spray paint it.

Default Paint for the gas fill door

Ron
I had the same issue on our 2006 RT and I removed the door assembly, sanded with very fine paper, re-painted with the spray paints that are designed specifically for plastics. So far so good, but time will tell.
