Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

It looks like it is about 80+ hours and a bit over $1700 in parts, roughly. The time could easily be cut to about 15 hours if space was not an issue, like if you designated a clear area and put the...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

I think this is finally the end of it, as there will only be the replacing of the charger when it comes on Tuesday...

I used insulating foam to seal and strain relieve the big wiring through the...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

The whole thing would have been a lot more fun if I could have done the couple of hours, whenever I felt like it, routine, instead of all day every day because the charger was so late. But that's the...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

One step forward, four back. :(

Well, not a good night last night here, it appears. Went out this morning to a blank display on the charger, which had been running in float for a couple of...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Finally getting near the end of it all! Tied back the wiring harness mess, which included lots of overlength ones from Roadtrek.

Finally got around to getting the fill hose for the long...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

As the performance testing has been going on, I have been finishing up the install stuff. Tied up all the under hood and front wheelwell wiring and got the aircleaner back on so the van would be...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Getting some of the details worked out at the end was a bit "challenging", as it got obvious that there would not be enough room to reasonably do the connections to the selector switch with it...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

I finished up most of the wiring for the 12v to the van, but left it unconnected at the 12v relay until I am sure the charging stuff is working. I decided to put in the 110 volt stuff, but not wire...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Hi Dick, thanks for the link. I have always had a hard time finding good grommet strip, and that looks like pretty nice stuff, and available in less than 50 feet. Over the years, I usually used...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Continuing, here is the whole plate in the van

Then I could finish up the rest of large wire wiring.

The negatives for the batteries tie together on a post mounted to the frame just...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

It always amazes me how long it takes me to run heavy gauge wires. I seem to guess wrong on time by a factor of at least 3X. I have been at it for 2 days.

I first took everything back out after...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

I finally got all the mounts, brackets, frames and such made and put in place will all the components (except the toggle switches I am waiting for) to see how it all fits in place. All in all,...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

As long as I was waiting for the charger to show up (allegedly tomorrow and I have to be here to sign, it says) I figured I would try to clean up my wiring diagram a bit, and also start learning the...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

It is built at the Blue Sea plant in Washington or Oregon, I think. Story is that they are building and run in testing every unit to confirm reliability. I don't know if this is because they want...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Well, the Blue Sea adventure continues. I called the vendor about 10 days ago to see if he had an updated ship date, which he didn't. Said he would check and get back to me, but I hadn't heard from...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Still been digging around on how folks are designing things in the charger world these days.

This is on the Battery Tender site and refers a lot of the actual tech work back to Deltran:

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

I noticed the no minimum current thing, too, but I would bet that the Pheonix also has that, as they seem to be pretty sophisticated, and the minimum current seems to be more common than the variable...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

I have been googleing for a long time looking for information on absorption time setting. 99% of what I found was the normal fixed absorption time calcs based on battery bank size.

BUT--I finally...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

It will be interesting to see what it does, and it should be obvious. If the absorb timer keeps going higher until the start of absorption, and then counts down from there, not the maximum, we will...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

That is what I initially thought, but then I saw where it says "When in bulk mode the remaining time will increase" referring to the absorption timer. That is when I started thinking that it may set...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

The breakers are sold as an 80 amp breaker, but are really two 40 amp breakers in parallel with a permanent strap. Normally, this is a no-no, but apparently they must make sure they match very well....

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

The spool of 4 gauge showed up yesterday, so I could get back to finishing off the capacity increased wiring from the engine to the rear.

The original wiring from the alternator was a 4 gauge wire...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

The only 2 gauge Roadtrek had in was the battery cables from the two coach batteries to the binding post. The wire from the front was 4 gauge, and the wire from the binding post was also 4 gauge,...

Re: Charger and inverter upgrades in process

Next up was to strip out the existing charger, controls, and such from the electrical area in the passenger side rear of the Roadtrek. The battery cable wiring all needed to also be pulled out and...
