I looked at the Cooper site a couple of days ago, and it appeared that the units that are called equalizer/converter show two wiring diagrams, one if it is used as an equalizer, and another if it is...

I wish I knew more about how the equalizers work, especially the ones that supply power also. I think the big question for me would be which would be easiest on the batteries, a center tapped system...

That is what we do, also. DC chargers for the phone, tablet, laptop, Kindle, camera, etc.

We only turn on the inverter for the microwave, maybe a hair dryer once we get more battery finished.

Absolutely on the DC to DC converter. I hope that is what others have been thinking, as I just assumed it would be silly to do an AC converter off the inverter to get the 12v.

I think Marko has an extra ground at battery E. Rehooking the way Gerry M will work, as however you get to a parallel setup on A/B is good. I think looking at the system and figuring out how to get...

I actually forgot to put the inverter on the schematic, too.

Offhand, I can't think of any reason that the inverter couldn't just be grounded to the chassis, and then back to shunt if you put in...

I made a quick sketch of how I think the markup would look in schematic form. Should be a bit more easily followed compared to all the lines crossed off, etc.

From + to minus

H/D/C/ A or B

G/F/E/ A or B

It can be A or B as the last of either string because of the single cable between the third and forth pairs.

It should have showed up in the post, not as an attachment. It does show on mine. I will go back and attach it also.

Are you able to see the attachment now, I just added it.

This is a first shot, probably got plenty of holes in the idea. To rewire and put the front batteries on separate series strings, putting the ground all in one place, no new long big wires to...

Yeah, I think we are saying the same thing is different languages, basically floating the ground up to system in the meter.

I wonder if Bogart does something differently. I think they say they...

Does that mean you would run the meter on whatever it normally would plus whatever voltage is on the shunt, so that there would a net of having negative being at whatever the shunt was at and rest of...

I had to go back to my old notes to remember what was up with them, as I did look at the shifter. I think they have changed the spec callout a little since I talked to them about it, as the accuracy...

I think it all boils down to the fact that any big bank could benefit from balancing, but is the cost, complexity worth it? The Roadtrek setup sucks in so many ways, that it will be worse than a...

As I mentioned in post #60, I don't think you will find a digital ammeter or monitor that can have the shunt in the positive line. I looked for months unsuccessfully for our setup. They will work...

All the shunt setups I have seen have to go on the ground end of the system, as the meters can't handle having battery voltage on them. The exception would be if you used a plain analog meter. You...

The etrek at 24 volts is really a 4 battery string of 6 volt batteries, so I think you could use the 4 battery string balancer on it. You would need each "battery" in the string to be two 6v...

That has always been what I have thought is should be, as it is easy and leaves the 24v system as only 24v. No good reason to do it other ways, I think.
