Cellphone calls over Hughes Net when you're NOT home.....
Greg, I'm not sure you can make a cellphone call using the Hughes Net Satellite Network when you are away from your router or gateway... AND that's the point I'm making....

I setup an In Reach account...and I'll treat this like any other "insurance"... they can locate you anywhere...

OKAY....as long as you know that the Spot X cannot receive messages and only uses a LEO GPS network that is inferior to the Iridium Satellite Network..

It's true.... Garmin (formerly Delorme) InReach is the best service!
Purchased the Garmin InReach Explorer + from REI .. and activated it yesterday. The guys at REI said that In Reach has NEVER failed to work.
As far as I'm concerned, it's like "long term care"...

I agree that it's always good to be prepared... but, I also think that redundancy is a good idea... and while "rugged individualism" is something to be admired..it pays to be smart about what you can...

Yeah, I looked at the In Reach solution...
I know.... In Reach does work..
I'll have to think about where we go... and maybe if its just to National Parks or along rural routes... someone or Verizon will have a cell tower for emergency...
