I like it better if the bed lifts all the way to the ceiling, and the area underneath is a lounge or bench seating. Ultimately, you can have a bed below and a bed above, or just the bed and seating...

There are alot of variations on this layout, both on Sprinter and the Ducato/Promaster/etc.

I like the drop down bed idea and it seems to be quite popular on the German vans, as I've posted a few.
