Default GSI drip cup and the perfect tiny toaster

Found an easy compact item to make coffee, and I think I found the perfect compact toaster.

Love this one slice vintage toaster, wincrasher!
Making toast while camping is always a challenge, specially when boondocking. We've tried low amp toaster ovens, BBQ with a cast iron plate, coleman four slice toaster for gas burners. Just received a CVC Gas cooker double toaster from http://campervanculture.com.

UK campers install broiler ovens in their RVS just to make perfect toasts! Can't wait to try it out when our PM campervan will be out of storage in a month

I make toast in a frying pan on the stove top. Quick, simple and one less item to carry.

We now have a Keurig single cup coffee maker. We brew directly to 12 oz. Thermo mugs and it is hot enough. Typically one brew will satisfy me in the morning. The Keurig is so fast my wife will brew a cup when we stop for fuel or at a rest stop sometimes. No fuss, no mess. We have 120v power all the time. In our previous Great West Van when not hooked into shore power we either had to run the generator (not going to do at a service station) or use a French Press on a propane burner (also not going to do at a service station.)

With a Mr. Coffee drip type coffee maker brewing a pot more times than not had coffee we didn't drink and dumped. We also have the re-usable k-cup holder where we can put ground coffee in rather than use the pre-packaged k-cups. Personally, I prefer not to drink the same coffee that way all the time. I like to choose from a variety of k-cup brands. If I brew to a ceramic cup I will sometimes zap it with the microwave to get it super hot.

I agree with Davydd. A Keurig combined with an adequate inverter is hard to beat. Of course, it can do tea and hot chocolate as well. I added a homebrew auto-fill mechanism, so it can be made ready to brew at the push of a button.

As for toast, I think one of those Coleman stovetop setups work great. Only disadvantage is having to flip the toast, but that is made up for by being able to do four slices at once. Bizarrely, this entered into our decision not to delete propane from our setup.

I have a Keurig at the house. It's pretty good.

But I'm not willing to dedicate 2 cubic feet in my van to such a device, and I think very few on here would or could. That's why the post for an item that will fit in a drawer.

I still like my stainless steel, thermos type, french press. I received a Keurig for my birthday but gave it away since I think it makes terrible coffee and we seldom have electricity so it would waste space.
I wish I had a good (non electric) toaster. I think we are on our third try. This one is flat with a mesh top and is the best so far, but quite ancient. We found it in a thrift store.

Our Keurig is built in with a slide out tray.

Pulled out to fill water or put in a K-cup.

Here is how the self-closing slide works. Listen for the positive click that locks and keeps it in place while driving.

Aeropress. I received a Keurig for free and gave it away.

I just picked up a Presto MyJo coffee maker for the van in-store at Wally's - $14.82. The MyJo is a simple non-electric pump device that makes k-cup coffee in under a minute, once filled with hot water. Tried it out this morning with a taste comparison between my Keurig machine and the MyJo output. By my untrained palate, it's pretty close. Cleans up by just removing the k-cup and rinsing the bottom. Comes with a fill-your-own capsule, too. Here is a link, with a demo video: MyJo Coffee Maker

Sold!

I have a Keurig mini onboard but of course you need 110v and generator hours and coffee time are not always the same. Thanks for the link.

I just spent three weeks on tour using the Presto MyJo coffee maker, and I am well satisfied. Here is one thing I found to make better coffee with it...Keep the pressure on the water sufficient to push it through the K-cup, but not so much as to force the water to gush through. The slower passage apparently allows the coffee to develop a bit more flavor and aroma. Anyways, it worked perfectly for me, required nearly zero clean-up afterward, and produced my morning beverage in a minute after filled with hot water.

I bought one of those. It's genius. There's no wasted water and like you say, almost no clean up.

I've found it takes about 3 slow pumps to get all the water thru. The trick is to hold it down while it continues to drain, when the flow eases, then pump again.

Love the thing - end to end, much quicker than the keurig.

That's exactly what I found, too. Keep the pressure "low" and constant. I am incredibly happy with the thing. We're off to FLA and TX tonight for seven weeks...I know I'll have a good cuppa Joe each morning.

For anyone interested, you might want to check the clearance bin at your local Walmart for a MyJo K-cup coffeemaker. I just found them going for just FOUR dollars at mine. Bought the few they had for gifts. (Online store showing $14.82.)
