Fishing rod holders

Postby garmp » Sun Oct 28, 2012 2:47 pm

Just got our SMB and love it!!!. Got the PH top without the bed. I need to devise a way to transport our fishing rods. Generally when we go fishing we carry 6 (4 ultra lights and 2 fly rods). The longest ultra light is 5'4" and the fly rods (2 piece) are in cases. What I'd like to do is devise a method to carry or hold 3 on each side of the van Sort of a His & Hers. Trying to figure a way to utilize the side rails, that the PH bed would sit on. Any one make anything near this that I might adapt? I tried the forum search and found solutions for under the PH bed, but again I don't have that and would like to use the side rails in some manner. I can get the rod holders most anywhere, but don't know how to attach them to the rails. Don't want a permanent thing and don't want to mess up the nice finish with marring clamps and such. Appreciate any and all help.

Moved to General forum for visibility.

I wish I could help - maybe a photo would give us a better idea.

Try sportsmobile forums. Maybe someone there has a solution.

Sorry. I reread your post and realized you already went there. What about some sort of clamps and hooks.

Photographs of the ideal location. Maybe lay your rods in that area, to help visualize your desired arrangement.

Finally got around to taking some pics. This project has recently taken a back burner for a while. Let's see if I can place them here:

The first one is from the drivers seat and the second from the rear. My thought were/are a device/holder to fit under that horizontal rail that runs the length of the van just above the windows (the lighter color one). This is heavy steel and I rather not drill into it. Can't go above it, cause that's where the canvas and screens lie. This rail is about 6" wide and the above portion is only 2".

Oh well, got a couple of months now to work on it. Thanks for all the replies and if something pops up please let me know.

thanks and I'll keep you posted.

Rare earth magnets are very strong.
Maybe a nylon bag with a strip of strong magnets sewn in would hold the fishing rods to the steel under the fabric.
Put the rods up while parked because it might not hold when driving and you have to brake suddenly.

I think a few strips of sheetmetal would work. Fold the strip to hook over the upper edge an follow the contour under the flat, with the end tucking into the crease between the light and dark materials on the wall.

Attach what ever rod holder you like, to these metal parts.

Thanks, That might be a step in the right direction, but as of for now, that project is on hold.

"As Seen On TV" - maybe your best solution?
