many road treks have a second receiver of appropriate size offset to the drivers side for their spare hitch. this allows the "real" reciever hitch to be used for tow etc

many of these carriers have a spring or other arrangement which allows lowering

Yep, the go to used to be the Ezee-lift, but he has quit making them. They did work well, though. There currently isn't anything that I know of unless the new Roadtrek is using something similar enough on their new units.
