Default Kentucky

Heading to Kentucky the second week of April for a week or so. Will be in the Lexington area for a few days....plan on staying at the Kentucky Horse farm campground. Was wondering what other campgrounds are in the area that are a must see. We prefer the state parks or federal ones, elec is nice but not necessary.
We have spent quite a bit of time camping in the parks on the western part of the state. But the eastern and middle part are new areas to us.
We enjoy hiking and any type of area that has waterfalls and other scenic views.
Would appreciate any information you can give me.
Thanks

We were in Lexington for a conference a few years ago, but it was before we bought the B so we roughed it at a hotel. Since it was a work trip we didn't get to tour much, but we did spend one afternoon just driving around the countryside. It's very beautiful. Look for the tobacco barns along the road and stop to smell the drying tobacco - it really smells good (and I'm not a smoker)

I will be in Sweetwater TN the last weekend in April, so we'll be just south of you. Not sure yet if Chino is coming or not.

Consider FT Boonesborough about 20 miles south of Lexington along the Kentucky river. Also check out the Red River gorge and Natural Bridges area
east of Lexington, about an hour's drive along I-64, this area has lots of hiking and scenic views both hiking and driving type.

We are heading to Kentucky and Knoxville TN later this summer.* Did you find any good spots? Did you stay at the horsepark? Any information would be a help.

Stayed at the Kentucky Horse park and really liked the park. When we where there it wasnt very crowded which is nice. Could be busier at this time of the year. Also stayed at Natural Bridge State Park, there are 2 campgrounds there and we stayed at the one that was further up the road. Had a neat little creek running through the campgrounds, had to drive down into the campgrounds as it was a bit below the road level. Also stayed at Noland Lake State Park in Ky. Another very nice park off the beaten path. Have stayed previous years at the Mammoth Cave Ntl Pak also.....no hook ups but a nice park for a day or two.
