New batteries in a 2010 Airstream

Today I had the task of changing out original batteries in an Airstream Interstate. NOT a fun job 1) had to tear the sofa bed apart just to get to the box 2) batteries are special 6 volt (Lifelines) that weigh a ton stacked on top of each other 3) new batteries $380 each! Hopefully they last 10 years![IMG]

Special 6v batteries? Why would they not use the very common GC2 Lifeline batteries (GPL-4CT)? They are nearly as expensive though at about $300 each at a very good price, so might be the same $380 at a walk in retail place.

That is their tall version of the golf cart batteries, which quite a few manufacturers, like Trojan, also make now. Nice batteries as they give 300ah in the footprint of a GC2 battery pair, as long as you have a bit of extra height. They have had that battery for something like 10 years, I think.

Have you tried to desulpate the old batteries with a smart charger?
You might be able to keep them for other purposes.

So the old batteries were the original batteries, and were sunk in on the cases. So it was time.

Yes they are vented by the large flex tube in the OP's second photo. It vents to side of van.
