Onan Generator Parts
Hello,
New here, and I just purchased a 1989 Dodge Xplorer class B. It has a generator and it runs but the muffler is shot. From the tag on it it appears to be a 2.8KV model FA/2600 A model. I have searched online for parts but having no luck. Does anyone recommend a source for Onan parts? Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff, welcome aboard. I have a fellow Rt'er who called Onan in NC; he spoke to them about getting a exhaust pipe, resonator and a bracket...they either handled or gave him off to someone who could. From his conversation, it was smooth, and prices were bad...shipping was what it was, but he was pleased. You might look up Onan and give them a call. Ron

I searched Amazon under the Onan PN 155-2186 and Nelson PN 20578, did you find either of these part numbers on Amazon? I also searched just "onan generator muffler" but did not find the one I need. Thanks, Jeff

I don't know where you got your part number
I believe they are all the same.
It mates with standard 1 1/2" (O.D.) exhaust pipe.

Spark Arrestor/Muffler
OK, then, with the link you supplied, and me being new to generators (other than Honda) I'm thinking now what I was calling a "muffler" may be the spark arrestor. I got the part number off the part itself, a fairly large rectangular thing with an inlet (where it rusted through) and whats left of an outlet (also rusted) so I may need a new spark arrestor AND a new muffler, and pipes. After my first post yesterday I dropped the generator to get a better look. It is an Onan Microlite 2.8. Thanks, Jeff

Further Info on contacting Onan - 1-800-548-0691, #1 = POC: Kim. Also, you mention the round, rusted item - probably a Resonator, the Spark Arrestor is a Screen. Hope this helps in your search. Ron

I recently replaced the muffler on my Onan with the factory part that I found for $134, but can't remember vendor. It does come with a new spark arrestor in place. Things are much quieter now that I have a muffler with no holes in it.
On TDY near Omak, WA. with motorcycle in tow. Yeehaw

and lastly...my neighbor had a motorcycle shop fabricate something for him- using a generic motorcycle muffler sized correctly for the displacement of the onan.
I also have the 2.8...his is quieter than mine
