Default Replace Onan Gen with hitch moun Generator

With so many having issues with the onboard Onan generator has anyone explored mounting a generator on a hitch generator mount?

Thanks

OH FOR CRIPES SAKE JOHNNIE!

Now you put that idea in my head. Now I have go and learn to weld ... again.

Since getting my 16P190 I have really missed my generator. I often travel mid-winter and the lithium, solar, inverter, etc are cute but in the end they don't make the grade. Nor in the 100 degree heat of August when I stop to rest and need that air going for six or more hours.

As a ham I would be very pleased to be done with the noise from that darn inverter. I've never seen something generate so much RF across so many frequencies.

Darn you, Johnnie!

Prevoiusly neglected and problematic Onan replaced by a battery storage mount.
I bought this
https://amazon.com/gp/product/B00JZQ...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can mount it to a hitch carrier or on my enclosed trailer tongue. I have a ramp to facilitate moving it.

Inverter, the correct plug in for the RV cord, much quieter than the Onan, and remote fob start/stop. The hassle is dealing with gasoline. I had mounted an external electric fuel pump for the failed one on the Onan and re-purposed that pump with a long enough hose to reach the genny. To refuel, I just run the hose to the genny and turn on the pump. I do have a small gasoline rated ball valve near the fill end of the hose to avoid spilling.

I don't run it much exept for occasional A/C or powering a toaster oven or microwave. Solar takes care of battery charging.

Two years of trouble free service so far.

Maybe I am lucky but over the past 12 years of RVing and having an Onan generator on both RVs I never had any major problems with my Onans.

I did replace the carburetor on my 2007 RT210 Versatile Onan 2800 but that is all.

I have always maintained them according to Onan
Maitenance manual.

I am a HAM also and operate 2 meters thru 80 meters with the generator, the coach batterys and shore power and do not have any noise issues.

I bonded the antenna mounts to the chassis and ran separate ground straps from the generator, coach batterys and Inverter to the chassis also.

The only issues with a generator mounted like that.
One is parking in a regular space with a rack on the back. You might stick out too far.

Two is theft it must be secured well so it cannot be stolen easily, including a hitch lock.

Three the big one. Make sure exhaust is getting away from the vehicle. These generators don't have a protruding tailpipe to get the exhaust away from them. They are designed to be used away from the vehicle not mounted on one.

For design purposes, that genny weighs 97 pounds. The Onan considerably more.

I've done that for about 15 years. Never had a problem. Good luck.
