Default Travato 22G - Open Ground warning light on ATS

Hi,

I own a 2022 Travato G. I am plugged into my house and yesterday, all of a sudden, I am not getting any shore power. I found the ATS had an "Open Ground" warning light. I tried to reset the GFCI on the inverter but it is hard to reach and I am not even sure if that is possibly a cause for this warning light.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Jim

Have you checked that the ground connections are tight at both the home receptacle and breaker panel?

Thanks for the response! No, I haven't. It is a very tight space and I am not great at electrical. Those connections would go from the ATS to the breaker panel and from the ATS to the side (inside) of the van where it gets plugged in from the outside?

start by checking the source at your house and then work towards the van.

if this is beyond you ( and that's ok! )

check the source at the house and if that checks good take the van with your cable to an RV shop.

if you have a meter you can check the cable which plugs into the van- assuming a twist lock connector, there are 3 poles:

the "L" shaped is GROUND

the larger of the 2 slots is NEUTRAL

the smaller of the slots is HOT

measuring with your probes, you should see:

Hot to Ground: 120 volts ( nominal value- anywhere between 110~130 volts)

Hot to Neutral: same value as above ... within 5 volts

Neutral to Ground: close to 0, as much as 5 volts is acceptable

I meant to check the house side. Turn off the breaker at the panel. Check that the ground is tight. Then, with the breaker off, pull the outlet out from its box and check the ground connection.

Easiest is to just plug in a cheapo outlet tester into the house outlet, it if is a standard 110v duplex 15/20 amp outlet. If there is an open ground at the plug the tester should show it. If no open there, it is probably in the van cord or van, possible a bad adapter plug or dogbone.

It looks like that is a plain ATS so it is probably only looking at the incoming power for the polarity and ground quality. All you really have after the shore power source is and adapter (probably), cord, and maybe a plug in at the van or not, then cable to the ATS. Not many things to go wrong so should be able to find it.

Using one of these to test your house outlet would be the first place to start. I carry one in the RV and it has saved from having an issue. They are available at big box stores, ACE or Amazon.

Hi Jim, I think you can find a solution at the facebook page for Travatos and Wannabes. That page is an amazing resource for Travato owners. I have a Travato and it is my go to place for information. Good luck
